The table shown above is the tentative schedule for our ON MAS trip. Once no other opinion, it will then be finalized as the final schedule.

As of now, our friend, Jeremy has expressed his desire to go MAS with us. If that is the case, would you all mind that we will have 11 people in total for the trip? (I’ve just learnt about this from Fish last night). We would like to hear your opinion. :)

In addition, our lovely Fei Fei is confirmed joining us for the KL-Penang trip! *claps*~~~

8^th July - Singapore

The one day pass for Universal Studio is already bought. It is $66 for each ticket, with $10 voucher.
For the constraint in time, please try to exchange enough RM to S$ before heading down to JB, because we will directly go to Singapore right after we all reached JB.
Besides Universal Studios, there is also Casino available. As it is located just next to each other, if you are keen to go into the Casino, below is the screenshot of Casino’s dress code:-

Haha, so maybe we all will have to be smart casual to play all those theme park games! Cool, isn’t it? XD

12 July – 13 July - Taiping

As Aaron will arrange for a hilltop/jungle/steamboat getaway, I think it would be better to bring at least one sport attire for safety purpose.

13 July – 14 July - Penang

We haven’t decided where to go for Penang right? But from Fish’s suggestion, The Batu Ferringhi is located near a beautiful beach.

So, just in case we will be staying at this place, it would be better if you bring at least one swimming suit / trunk.

This Kajang boy is considered as the wizard of the group. NATO can count on Kien Giap for brilliant (and sometimes just plain rubbish :p) ideas. Fresh but ever-willing to try new things, Kien Giap is also a staunch supporter of NATO’s activities. His very personality, in terms of facial expressions, bodily gestures, voice intonations (and the list goes on), also provide much comic relieve for NATO, so much so that he might just be named Cecilia, NATO’s official mascot… haha…

An independent individual, Kien Giap gets things done the way he wants them to. From early completion of assignments, to solo stints at Celebrity Fitness (not to mention attaining Legend status in Fifa 08), Kien Giap exemplifies the concept of efficient time usage. Also, all Kien Giap needs is that lucky break - to launch him into the direction of that special someone… hehehe…

Perseverance and optimism is the name of the game right now, and Kien Giap is never short of these two characteristics. FA2 F&I & co, get ready for the return of the top scorer…

Life at Ernst and Young KL has been quite an eye opener.. on his way to becoming a partner soon.. hehehe!

Hmm.. Been nudging for new posts on this blog.. Should this post be dedicated to her? haha.. Eh update us la about your activities during the summer..

Handling entire sections of audit stuff on his own at Deloitte KL! Still has time for solitaire at the office though...

OSK Securities isn't exactly the dream job.. but with Lik Hang around, everything becomes bearable.. hehe..

Joined the rat race at Deloitte JB a week earlier than expected.. they really need her expertise..

Tribute to a Bruneian

Today, Nato sees the departure of a Bruneian.

When is he departing?
He leaves Malaysian soil for Brunei on the 6th of December 2008, 5.30pm. This is followed by the trip to Australia in February 2009.

Why is he departing?
Heading for the land down under, university life in Adelaide would be a whole new enriching experience. Always a natural talent in IT, there is also more options for him in terms of courses available at the University of South Australia.

How has he prepared for departure?
Cleaning up his room was certainly no joke. Anyone interested in second hand items were free to help themselves though.
A Natorian outing at Quattro, a few sweet dates with Yi Qian, a (profitable?) trip to Genting, a couple of basketball matches, a BBQ Plaza dinner with the guys.. have all helped put him in the right frame of mind to leave Malaysia with little regrets.

What will he be missed for?
His humour.
His carefree and positive attitude.
His (previously) freezing room.
His support for Arsenal FC.
His David Villa hint of a goatee.
His dislike of veggies.
His internet hacking skills.
His monetary services to Nato.
His FIFA, CS, futsal, badminton and pool skills.
His friendship.

Who will continue rooting for him?
A whole bunch of people, but most importantly in this context: all Natorians. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours, in preserving his character and way of thinking, as well as in keeping up the Nato spirit.

I cannot imagine going Uni next sem without seeing 2 of them.

I got the Exam timetable already. Who wanna know, call/sms/msn/email/skype/cbox/GG me. We have 4 days to party before we start internships.

If before exams, you all cannot make it, nvm. I feel you

If during study break, you all go back hometown, nvm. I feel you

If during summer holidays, you all busy, nvm. I feel you

But these 4 days. Please make it.

They're my best Korean and Brunei friend. (although they're my only Korean and Brunei friend). They're the only 2 people in this universe who visited me when I'm hospitalised. Not being Malaysian didn't deter them from taking public transport. PUTRA LRT, KTM, Bus, Taxi.. you name it, they took it.

You visited me in the hospital, I won't forget that.
You the only player who can consistently whip me in FIFA..

As I was doing my CPL, and after a whole week of FA2 block lectures, I was feeling worn out by studies. But then I realised,

It's that time of the sem again! Where we have our final outing right after all our assignments and before our final preparations for our exams!

We had Eye of Malaysia, Club 7 in Sem 1
We had Click 5 @ Genting in Sem 2

So this sem, I think it's been awhile/never since NATOrians ever been to downtown KL, so I suggest we go to

CLUB QUATTRO

It's a 4-in-1 Lounge, Restaurant, Bar and Club at Avenue K, opposite KLCC.

When it snows, it blows, but not at the Winter Bar. Sure, the thermostats fluctuate and may drop to an all-time low. The temperatures vary: at approximately +8ºC to +10ºC in the main room to around -5ºC in the snowing room. At the Winter Bar, everyone gets a reason to dress up and be seen in (literally) the coolest bar in the city.

NATOrians, at the end of this sem, we may not have time to have fun, as some of us have to start our internships early, AND, as we all know, 2 NATOrians will be leaving us at the end of the year. We might not get many more opportunities to enjoy ourselves in a group anymore.

So I plead to you, lose your indecisiveness, lose your inhibitions, lose your conservatism, and lets have fun!

After visiting our blog the other day, Ms Suh Zean commented on how interesting our lives seem to be. And she's right! Try browsing through our older posts; you'll be pleasantly reminded that we Natorians are really quite happening! Hehe. Keep up the good work everyone! By the time we graduate, our blog will surely be the envy of everyone... :)

Ice Cream Fund Raising Event Review

It took 3 days eventually, plus a temporary freezer and last minute home deliveries by MrBak, but NATOrians can truly be proud of themselves, as we manage to completely sell all our ice creams and raise as much funds as we could for our special NATOrian.

Credit's due when it's due.

Special thanks to Vincent Koay, who generously donated RM6000 plus worth of Walls ice creams, arranging and bearing the cost of the ice cream's delivery and the freezer rental, plus lending us your magical voice from you and your band.

Thank you Mr. Janaronson from the ECA in making sure we had all the equipment needed for that 3 days, plus publishing our flyers and posters.

Ms Suhzean, for her guidance, ideas and advice, and without her, this event wouldn't have happened at all.

Thank you genereous lecturers who bought a huge amount of ice creams, and on top of that, contributed a whole lot more as donation.

Thank you, to friends and students, who bought the ice creams and willingly contributed their change as donations. Every ice cream did make a difference =)

Before the event
We had a week's break before the big day, but posters and banners designed by Aaron was already put up all over TBS and Main Campus. Meanwhile, the online promotion received good response via Facebook and blogs.

2 Days before the big day, we had a lunch-till-dinner meeting at Old Town, to finalise our preparations, with full attendance despite the hangover from the previous night at Laundry

Day 1
1000 Flyers were distributed by Bak, Aaron, Qian, Fish, Mun Teng, Rain, Abigail at the ADP building, TBS, and TUCMC to create awareness

Day 2
The 2 teams swap places, as we look forward to raise more funds.

Unfortunately, it rained both days, but the storm on the 2nd day was accompanied with strong winds, causing the team at TUCMC to abandon ship midway, after having our PA System, a freezer, and Bak's laptop charger soaked in the rain. We had to hold on to the canopy to prevent it from being blown away by the wind.

Thankfully, Aaron came to the rescue and drove us back to TBS. Even at TBS, the rain caused a lot of disruptions as well.

We are deeply touched by the generosity and kindness displayed by a huge huge majority of the students. Sad to say, however, there are one or two sampah masyarakat from TUC Main Campus who chose to be snobbish, arrogant, and worse still, there are those who probably do not value life or clearly wasn't educated well by their parents. I won't wanna curse them here. We believe what goes around comes around, and to those who have contributed, no matter RM1 or RM100, you know you've done a good deed.

Ice Cream Fund Raising Event

A friend in Taylor's has been unfortunately diagnosed with leukemia. A bright and cheerful student, he has to defer a semester to undergo chemotherapy and possibly a bone marrow transplant. With such extensive care required, YOUR contribution is needed to help our dear friend.

Man, its been a pretty eventful past few weeks!

First mention must be given to Kien Giap (Cecilia) for his cheerful attitude. You don't know how glad we are to see that you're in good spirits just like always! They say the mind has power over the body, so, to persevere mentally is vital to everything else! We must give thanks to Aaron, Yoon and Seng Kheng for their early birthday gift to you too.. hehehe.. Of course, everyone else has been giving you equal thought, no doubt about that! On behalf of all Natorians, we hereby wish you a Happy 20th Birthday filled with lots of hope! :)

In retrospect, we now take a look at Aaron's early birthday celebration! (sadly, he has had to write an account of it on his own..) On the 21st of August 2008, the Natorians tricked Aaron into a trap at Neway, and gave him a surprise early birthday celebration! (Special thanks must be given to our Ms VP CMT for being the brains behind this operation.. hehe!) Everyone sang their hearts out, had a great time, and most importantly celebrated Aaron's adulthood! Again, the Nato spirit was evident, and our ears were open to the melodious voices of Mr Yoon Ju Seung and Ms Rain Wong Swee Chin...

Happy 21st Birthday Aaron Loo Yu Xun!

The CPA Australia Undergraduate Conference also deserves mention here. Members of the CPA Australia Student Charter had a great time helping out at the event! Bak, Yixuan and Yi Qian all chipped in manpower to the success of the event, Aaron had his moment of glamour on stage as MC, and SK did all the manual labour possible.. In the end, we all went home with valuable insight, satisfaction of an effort well done, and loads of CPA goodies to boot!

Back to the reality of college life, we are again up against same ol assignments.. same ol tutorial work.. same ol old place... But cliched as it may seem, Nato is still goin strong! We have even welcomed Fish and Bak back after a bout of health scares, and things seem to be lookin up again! Nothing will stand in our way now.. haha.. To everyone stressed out by assignments, remember the words of everybody's favourite Kien Giap:

Jovial and always ready with a joke, there is also hardly a quiet moment when Kelvin is around. It must be mentioned here that Kelvin will always be remembered for his uncanny impersonations of Ms Alice Cheah. With all due respect to our Marketing lecturer, Kelvin has taken over the role of reminding us to ‘think before we answer’…

With DOTA skills that cannot be rivalled by any NATO-rian, Kelvin is equal in status as a certain Legend in FIFA. However, Kelvin might just promise to quit DOTA for a special someone… haha… On a side note, life has indeed been sweet for Kelvin. He has been blessed with an enviable whirlwind romance, which has frequently brought him all the way south to JB… hehe… He however consistently shows his support for NATO, especially via postings on this blog… :)

A lot of things seem to be happening in NATO lately. First of all, Kien Giap, Fish and Yixuan were successful in their interview to become PASS leaders. Aside from holding classes, they have had to attend additional lectures as well. But being strong-willed characters, we're sure that all three of them will persevere.

Next, our one and only telephoong has managed to get a side job (gasp)! Apparently, the rise in fuel prices has taken a toll, and Fei Fei has found that the extra income helps... Do give her all the support she needs. Lets all go to H2O more often! By the way, Kelvin is also saving up some pocket money (we wonder what's the purpose hehe). If you happen to be at Sunway Pyramid, remember to drop by at Popular Bookstore...

As for Bak, he seems to be quite busy with mysterious appointments lately. Strongly opposing additional F&I lectures on Fridays, it is becoming a guessing game as to who exactly are his 'personal time slots' reserved for. Hehehe...

Also, after months of searching, Yoon has finally found a home in ss15! Just a few doors away from Aaron and Kien Giap, the NATO community in Subang seems to be growing. We certainly have a larger crowd now during dinner time at Old Place... SK is also on the look out for a new place to stay, but so far he hasn't quite found the right place as yet.

But best of all, Yoon can now join in with the guys more often! Be it FIFA sessions or badminton, we now have an additional 'kaki' (member) we can turn to... Just like today! Badminton at Subang Racquet was a blast! Me (Aaron), Bak, SK and Yoon had fun 'testing' out 5 of the 6 courts, and it was all for free! Maybe we should start paying and booking in advance to avoid those nasty stares from some of their paying customers...

However, not all has been plain sailing. Fish has been struck down by a mysterious stomach ailment, and the few of us in Subang, Aaron, Fei Fei and Yixuan had to assist her to the clinic for a check-up. Special thanks to William too for giving us a ride there. We all wish Fish a speedy recovery back to her bubbly self soon.

To all other NATOrians, please remember to put your health first. The last thing we need would be to fall sick just when the semester is fast getting hectic. So do remember to drink lots of liquids to counter the unforgiving weather.

Salam sejahtera!

This is Aaron speaking for the first time as President of NATO! It is a great honour to receive the mandate from fellow NATOrians, and I hereby pledge on behalf of the new board to be worthy successors of the previous board. With the exception of SK and Yi Qian, who are in charge of their old portfolios, I’m sure that the board members will look forward to their new responsibilities. Will Aaron match president and cofounder Mr Bak? Will Mun Teng better iron lady Tan Yixuan? Will Kien Giap equal sec gen Aaron’s profile writing? All these questions will be answered in the coming term. :)

Its been a while since there were any major changes in the NATO blog. Redang came and went, just like the pioneer board of directors. Rain and Mun Teng’s birthdays were celebrated joyously at Pasta de Gohan (hmm, there doesn’t seem to be a post of that on our blog). However, before the year is up, there will definitely be drastic changes in the membership of NATO, especially those caused by a national service stint (Yoon) and an overseas transfer (SK). Therefore, this is the time to ensure that they will leave with unforgettable memories!

A few events have been proposed in the upcoming NATO calendar. Among these are the Avril Lavigne concert and the TBS Prom Night. Also, there will be a number of birthdays more to celebrate, thus promising many merry occasions more. Another major NATO outing might also be in the works, with South Korea among the proposed destinations… On a similar note, NATOrians can also look forward to the remainder of the NATO profiles, which the ex-sec gen has graciously agreed to carry on for purposes of comparability. :p

Before signing off, I hereby commend the previous board for a good job done and we look forward to new pastures ahead. It must also be emphasised that in spite of the apparently higher positions held by the board members, all NATOrians are in fact equal in standing, and the voices of every member will be equally heard. Therefore, do not refrain from speaking out. Together, let us keep up the spirit of NATO!

Moshi moshi!

This is Mr. Bak speaking, for the final time as NATO President. As you all should be fully aware of, NATO Elections are conducted every semester, simply to provide opportunities for everyone to be able to be involved in any leadership capacity. I’m saying this without a tinge of sadness, as I had initially planned to resign as President earlier, only to rescind that decision as part of the persuasion for SK to remain in Malaysia for another semester. I’m thrilled and genuinely surprise at the level of support I received, and to be your President for a full semester, was a remarkable highlight of my semester despite being unable to fulfil all of my objectives. I’d also like to take this opportunity to dispel any rumours that I’d be leaving NATO altogether after resigning as President. Once a NATOrian, always a NATOrian, to borrow a quote from my alma mater.

I thank those who argued for positions to remain status quo, but nevertheless I strongly feel it’s time for someone else. Aaron has illustrated what a capable and responsible leader he is, and has greatly impressed with his initiative to enhance this blog with personal profiles, diligently written by himself, the wonderful organisation of the Redang trip, and I’m sure his calm, decisive demeanour, would be well liked by all members.

NATO, as a student group founded by none other than ourselves, should be above any individual. Lest we forget what NATO is all about, 9 of 15 NATOrians do not reside in KL. As compared to the majority of you, I guess I’m fortunate to be able to be close to my family while pursuing my studies. But, bearing in mind for the majority of us, the impetus is even greater for us to value and appreciate the friendship we all share. In the absence of our families, we are all that we have here.

As we step up from the threshold from being a teenager to adulthood, it is vital to mould ourselves to be vibrant and dynamic. Hence, NATOrians, do not shirk the responsibility should you be elected. Be proud that we, your friends regard you in such a positive manner, and take this opportunity to shine!

Redang Getaway: Day #3

Pulau Redang, Terengganu

Consuming a bottle and a half of wine certainly helps us sleep better. Everyone ends up waking up later than even day #2. After a hurried breakfast and some last minute packing, Nato manages to check out within 1 hour of getting up from bed…

Being the last day of the trip, there is relatively less excitement now. After all, we sadly have to say our goodbyes to Pulau Redang… But there’s still time for a final round of pictures! As some Natorians take forever to choose their souvenirs at the souvenir shop (especially Aaron), the rest of the group are busy snapping pictures on the beach. A bright sunny day certainly makes our final day on Redang look like paradise. These pictures will be more valuable than any other souvenir on sale…

We soon catch the ferry ride back to the mainland where we have lunch at McD. Since our flight home only departs in 5 to 6 hours, there is plenty of time to take a walk around scenic Kuala Terengganu. Everywhere in the town is within walking distance, and before long, we have visited Vincci (the most modern store available), China town, and even the association of Mun Teng’s clan: the Hainan Association! :p However, after a day of walking, it is equally refreshing just to chill and chat at a seaside park with tree-shaded areas, cool fine grass and great landscaping. Quite a peaceful moment for all Natorians…

The time for our flight arrives and we are ferried by Redang Beach staff to the airport; it is newly refurbished and much more impressive than expected. However, we are reminded of Malaysian standards when repeated power failures, right within the airport itself, is experienced… Natorians sit down to some light dinner, as well as to finish off the remainder of the snacks. Also, to accompany the Pringles and Mr Potato, is the remaining half bottle of wine. Mixed with 100 Plus, it is a refreshing drink indeed. But for certain Natorians who only had potato chips for dinner, their faces start to change into a bright red colour… After a photo session in the toilet (for the ladies), we finally take off, and its bye bye Redang trip…

All in all, it has been a fun-filled trip with lots of memories to take home. It is safe to say that participants of the trip ended up enjoying the gorgeous scenery, getting nice sun tans, knowing each other better… But most importantly, Natorians have yet again showcased their ability to have fun!

Event-of-the-day:

Bak’s football fails to get past the final security check-point! Did he manage to get on the flight in time? Or was he left stranded in Kuala Terengganu? Haha… The football was stuffed into Yoon’s backpack and checked into the plane’s luggage hold. Everyone gets home just fine… J

It should be a sin to be forced to wake up so early in the morning, especially during holidays. Natorians wake up a bit later than planned, with food at the breakfast line fast running out. Nevertheless, we all had our tummies filled in preparation for the snorkelling sessions ahead. Alcohol has some nasty effects on certain Natorians though, and poor Mr President had to stay in bed the whole morning… Meanwhile, its snorkelling time again for us!

The Marina Park is gorgeous. Fishes can be seen swimming right by the beach side. The beach itself provided excellent “reflexology”, with sharp bits of corals poking at our feet with every single step… The surrounding seabed seems to have come from a National Geographic’s documentary, with shoals of exotic fish eating bread right out of our hands, and live corals blanketing the seabed. The sea is however choppy from the wind, and our breakfast of roti canai starts to twist and turn in our stomachs…

The island itself is equally beautiful. Amid the slight drizzle, Natorians have fun on the beach, pose for pictures, climb rocks… and nearly misses the boat-ride back to the hotel! Back on the island, its time to prepare for lunch next, and a hot shower for the guys...

The final snorkelling session is almost here as Natorians hang out at the beach in anticipation. Almost half the Natorians, Aaron, Bak, Cecilia and Yoon (surprisingly all guys; except for Cecilia.. haha..) are getting lazy and reluctant to get soaking wet all over again, and decide to stay back on the island. In the absence of a majority of guys, Abigail and Yixuan took charge of the expedition.. .Whilst guy talks and name carving was commenced back on the beach, the Natorian snorkelers had some excitement indeed! This time staying close to Kai, the snorkelling guide, the Natorians manage to have a much less strenuous session, that is, until killer jelly fish come and Natorians swim and dodge for their lives… Thankfully, Seng Kheng and Yi Qian avoid getting stung this time.. hehe..

As the sun sets, a slight drizzle comes in again. Freshly back from their jelly fish ordeal, the Natorians sit back and unwind with some card games. Munching on tit bits prepared by QMs Abigail, Mun Teng and Yixuan, some Chor Dai Di and Poker is played, and some money exchanges hands…

The night brings with it a barbecue dinner. Natorians enjoy chicken wings, plates of lamb and beef, all fresh from the grill. Of course, we also have sticks of marshmellows, which Yixuan claims to be a great cure for stress... hehe... The smoke from the grills is beginning to get quite irritating though, and everyone soon proceeds to the quiet end of the beach where, guess what we find… Blue sand! Fascinating…

An eventful day ends with another round of indoor fun. Pillow talks, chess, cards and wine are all served up, and to top it all off, another thrilling session of Truth or Dare continues late into the night…

Event-of-the-day:

Chasing for the boat at the Marina Park! Still climbing rocks and posing for pictures when the boats arrived at the far-end, Natorians had to run across sharp coral bits to catch the ride home!

(Or was escaping from killer jelly fish more fun and heart-stopping…? hehe…)

Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu

It has been a long (and cold) journey, but everyone is ready for the next phase of the trip! Some 7-Eleven cup noodles and porridge is not a good way to start the day, but Redang Beach staff soon take us to town for a proper breakfast. Among the first to reach the jetty, Natorians invade the waiting room. Pictures are snapped, a ball is kicked around, naps are taken…

An hour’s boat ride takes us to the pristine and scenic island of Redang! Azure blue waters and sandy white beaches are a sight indeed. A majestic hotel looms into view, but it is not ours... A lower profile, but equally comfy chalet next to it is where we’re heading for. J Rooms are checked into, and the fun begins! Lunch is quickly followed by a tattooing session. Abigail, Bak and Qian are painfully pierced by the tattoo needles… Nah, they’re spray-ons! (which explains why Bak’s tattoo lasted for less than a day…)

Snorkelling is a blast! Everyone looks impressive in their snorkelling gear as life jackets and snorkelling masks are put on. The ladies of Nato had understandably applied litres of sun-block beforehand… :P A boat takes us out to the open sea, where we’re treated to the sight of clear blue waters, colourful fishes, natural corals, live sea cucumbers, and ‘Christmas trees’… Rain and Kien Giap are somehow (romantically) separated from the group, but later manage to rejoin us. J

The evening is a time for beach activities! Some beach football is played, but one by one, the noob guys of Nato are slowly kicked out of their own game (except for Yoon)… hehe… This turns out to be a good thing as the boys and girls of Nato proceed to have some awesome fun in the sea, and Seng Kheng is buried in sand and given sand-breasts…

Dinner marks the beginning of night, and music from the beach party soon blasts into the night. A day of travelling and snorkelling has however induced the Natorians to have peaceful beach walks and restful hammock naps instead. However, the real fun only began when vodka bottles were popped, and alcohol flowed… hehe...

Event-of-the-day:

‘Spin the bottle’ cum ‘truth or dare’ session, where remarkable truths are forced out of Aaron, Abigail, Bak, Kien Giap, Mun Teng, Rain and Yixuan. The writer, however, regrets to say that what was said in Redang, remains in Redang… hehehe…

Subang Jaya, Selangor

The BCB paper signals the end of Sem 2, and the beginning of NATO’s Redang Getaway! With the final paper over and done with, Natorians gather at Subang Jaya equipped with luggage prepared painstakingly over the weekend. The missed bus to Genting remains fresh in mind, but thankfully, there are no Natorians buying water, or attending Summer Splashes this time.. hehe..

The KTM arrives on time, and an energetic group of Redang-bound Natorians board the bus to Kuala Terengganu at 11pm sharp. Everyone tucks into their seats and prepares themselves for the 7-hour trip… Natorians, especially guy-girl pairs, you yourself know what you did on the bus.. hehehe…

Event-of-the-day:
Bak gets into the wrong KTM coach but in the end manages to rendezvous (meet up) with the group..

Pardon the procrastination, but it has been a somewhat busy week (in other words, the writer has been pure lazy.. haha..)… Anyway, back to the good stuff! NATO’s very own book prize winner, Fish might just strengthen the reputation of NATO by winning the Nobel Prize for accounting next! (That’s no such Nobel prize by the way…) Cute and bubbly, Fish is an excellent conversationalist (talker, in other words), her questions sometimes sounding like a non-stop machine gun… :p Nevertheless, even though she is an only child, she’s extremely thoughtful of her parents…

A dedicated student from Foon Yew, Fish takes classes seriously, only occasionally skipping the odd MS lecture. However, she is also keen in gaining more exposure to prepare for the murky waters of the future. Such exposure includes sitcoms and movies such as Friends and Kung Fu Panda, to further brush up her language skills…

In the spirit of gender equality, the Vice-President post will be opened to the fairer sex only. However, every member can contest for Presidency. In the event a woman is elected as President, the Vice-Presidency vote will be considered void, and the Vice-President will be chosen based on the highest vote obtained by a male candidate in the Presidency vote.

After almost not making it, we finally made it! (Sorry, lacking inspiration to blog now, simple sentences will do ya) Click 5 at Genting was on the 7th of June with The President, Bak, Vice-President Xuan, Sec-Gen Aaron, Treasurer SK, Abigail, Fish, MunTeng, Kelvin, & Fei Fei .

Bus was supposed to push off at 5pm, but er, due to reasons only known to themselves, the majority (8 of 9 NATO-rians) were late..and the 5pm bus left without us. Turned out to be a blessing anyway, since we reached at about just the right time. We had to take the 6pm bus.
This was the conversation between Me and the 2 bitches at the ticket counter.

Me : Boleh pakai tiket pukul 5 untuk bas pukul 6?
Bitch : Kalau ada tempat, bolehlah, tanya driver.
Me : Ohh..

(few moments later)

Me : Bas pukul 6 ada tempat lagi ar? Kitaorang nak beli 9 tiket
Bitch : Takde la, sudah full, next bus pukul 7
Me : Okla..saya nak 9 tiket untuk pukul 7.
Bitch : Bagi I tiket lama u.
Me : (Gives tickets)
Bitch : Nah, ini tiket untuk pukul 6.

In the end, she gave us 9 free tickets for the 6pm bus. WTF.

One of the few NATO-rians with ‘married’ status, Fei Fei cuts a motherly figure. From preparing home-cooked meals, to baking cookies and making chrysanthemum tea, she’s one handy Quarter Master to have in the house to feed hungry NATO-rians. A perfect example would be the trip to Langkawi, where thanks to her, we had cookies to nibble on along the way…

A tad on the romantic side, Fei Fei values tips on relationships and even does her research well (read: Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars…). Together with her fellow (female) NATO-rians, pillow talks are part and parcel of life in SS15… On a similar note, Peter is also a swell guy who, unfortunately, is not a member of NATO (any votes for automatic membership for spouses? :p)…

Another city girl, Abigail is comfortably in sync with college life. Her nonchalant expressions project a picture of coolness; however, Abigail is in fact a passionate member of NATO, rarely snubbing the major activities of the club. Be it the visit to the Eye on Malaysia, Langkawi, working at a warehouse, the (failed) trip to Genting or Official Launches, Abigail is always reliably present.

Even though the group has somehow chosen Mandarin as one of their main languages, Abigail is no stranger – and can often join in with a well-placed sentence or two. As for assignments, her timing seems to oftentimes be similar to that of the (procrastinating) Sec Gen (sorry, couldn’t help it! :p)…

Tall and slender, Abigail is also among the hot ones of the group. Always dressed conspicuously, Abigail adds a touch of style to the group. She has a somewhat unique preference for footwear though, often turning up at lectures wearing beach slippers (at least during sem 1… haha…)…

NATO was in full force on Friday, lending out tremendous support to the Accounting Club's CPA Australia Student Charter Launch, which signals our intentions of taking over the club next semester. Hehe..

NATO power was demonstrated admirably today. With 3 top NATO-rians involved in the organising committee, the Official Launch of Taylor's CPA Australia Student Charter was further complemented by the presence of supportive NATO-rians - who turned up in (almost) full force, even braving the wrath of a certain Ms Thama ... haha!

For NATO-rians eager to contest higher ranks, valuable 'attendance marks' were earned today - major events provide major popularity points! Some NATO-rians even had the opportunity to brush shoulders with top officials of CPA Australia, thus boosting their chances of appearing in Taylor's next newsletter...

Brought up in a demanding family, Yi Qian strives to do her best in everything. She gets even more exhilarated at the prospect of indulging in accounting assignments and tutorial work. With a wardrobe as large as your entire home, Yi Qian turns up at college with a fresh outlook everyday. Even her nails vary in colour from time to time. The nutty joker of the group, SK’s affinity for fun is second to none. Futsal, foosball, pool, basketball, DOTA, CS, FIFA, you name it, he knows it. And he’s good at all those things, mind you. Consequently, whatever activity that NATO suggests will always get his unwavering support and approval. In other words, everything will be ‘on’, never ‘off’…

SK’s mastery of IT is also admirable, even earning him an HD for that subject in TBF (give him a round of applause!)… He has also held his own in a certain Law tutorial, where oblivious to the bombardment of questions, SK’s quick response and reasoning pulled him through and got him the approval of Ms Catherine Cheng…

One of the few foreign members of NATO, SK brings an exotic flavour to the group. In his fast-fire speech, he educates NATO-rians on the issues of crude oil abundant back at home… haha… But again, looks can be deceiving. SK is, in fact, a very private person who has been through his share of ups and downs. He is also super protective of his little sis back at home…

Perhaps the most rational, reasonable, and sensible NATOrian among all, Aaron exudes a calming aura and decisive decision making skills, which, despite being the anti-thesis of NATO’s principle, illustrates what a vital cog he is to our group. Despite his relative lack of height, it hides the fact that Aaron, being one of the consistently brilliant students, excels in every subject and commands immense respect and affection of his lecturers and his fellow classmates. (add in a few female admirers too!) However, to the chagrin of many girls, Aaron has finally found his sweetheart back in his hometown in Taiping a few months ago.

An avid Arsenal fan who stood by the Gunners in face of constant criticism this season, Aaron is one of the few elite NATOrians who constantly engage in FIFA battles at Asia Café. It has since been a long way since Aaron was beaten abjectly by his fellow NATOrians a semester ago, and he is now proudly on par, or perhaps even better (sometimes..hehe) than the rest of us.

The iron lady of SMK Convent JB, Yixuan brings much needed girl power to the group. With her bulging biceps and nerves of steel (slightly overwhelming compliment ya? Couldn’t help it... haha…), the honorary VP has the mandate of all members, especially the ladies. Her grounded personality also means that she has a certain say in NATO matters.

As mentioned above, Yixuan underwent intensive leadership training during her Convent years. St John Secretary, President of The Interact Club, Editor of the School Magazine… All these leadership positions have helped develop her efficiency in dealing with problems, not to mention her penchant for getting things done perfectly, right down to the microscopic details… Deep down inside though, Yixuan is the sentimental kind and just needs the sincere support and approval of her peers, just like every one of us…

Arguably one of the NATO-rians with the most initiative, Bak became the self-appointed President during NATO’s inaugural General Meeting. Confident and ever-ready to spice things up, Bak’s major contribution to the group, along with the establishment of this blog, was the Langkawi trip in November 2007, which was a resounding success.

With his boyish charm, polished English and intelligent views (please forgive the obscene exaggerations), Bak rarely escapes the attention of (female) lecturers. For goodness sake, he has even been described in the words of Ms Suh Zean as (ahem) cool as a cucumber (we wonder where that ever came from)… Along with DOTA, Bak counts football, basketball, listening to music, surfing, blogging and studying (gasp!), as his hobbies, but his FIFA skills seem to have deteriorated of late (as at 26 April 2008)… However, he might just have hit a rich vein of form recently, even overcoming a certain ‘Legend’ by a score line of 3-0…

The naturally influential leader of the group, his suggestions exude reasoning, making big impact on major decisions. Having had working experience also adds to his maturity (in behaviour at least… for diplomatic purposes, it must be said that his YOUTHFUL appearance is still emphasised…). Sunny’s additional exposure and experience is a valuable asset to the otherwise fresh-eyed NATO-rians.

Joining UniSA as a diploma holder, Sunny has a slightly different study plan, thus rendering his classes somewhat isolated from the then fresh Sem 1 students. However, in addition to a few common subjects, his presence is also felt during chow time (lunch), and of course, during NATO’s General Meetings. On another note, Sunny's Cefiro provides elegant transport for the VIPs of NATO...

NATO's back! This post shall be transferred here now. Relentless in pursuit of money, 7 NATO members, including the President himself, the Vice-President-Elect, the Treasurer, and 4 others headed to some warehouse in Sunway to work. Our job was simply to cancel a printing error from a brochure. Sounds simple? Wait till you have do that about 19000 times.
